TV/RADIO PACKAGES

A compilation of my TV and Radio packages/reports done for Salford Now, Quays News and with freelance opportunities.

*NOTE: All Quays News pieces were produced in lockdown (Uni Year 2) and Salford Now pieces, after restrictions were lifted (Uni Year 3)

01

Cleavely Community Forest Garden (Salford Now)

These packages were made to show how green spaces can help people in Salford, there is a large amount of greenspace in the area and the forest garden offered a great incentive with growing fresh fruits and veg, and the classes for children among other things. This was made for TV and radio to try and reach broader audiences, the radio package was designed to help relax the listener with the music and soft wildtrack – it would emulate to relaxing feeling of being in a forest garden. With COP26 only a week after it was important to shine a light on how to help the environment.

02

Critchley Community Hub Fashion Show (Salford Now)

The aims of this story were to show important community hubs can be for the older generation, particularly after lockdown. It was able to show how community donations can help raise funds for centres and how much it means to people to be able to have an extension of their home. The target audience would be an older generation around Salford as it was just that age group shown in the package.

03

Man v Fat Football (Salford Now)

The aim was to help shine a light on men’s mental and physical health, something which isn’t given as much spotlight it could be given. Target audience wise this would be hitting the male Salford demographic of all ages. I think having older audiences see it would help as it’s only in recent years where men have been able to be more open about their issues. The piece was produced to illustrate the issues they can face and how the company has helped many men across the country.

04

Critchley Santa's Grotto Live (Salford Now)

As it was the end of the year, I wanted to do a more light-hearted and fun-filled live where you could see how the hub were celebrating Christmas. I also added in a mini package to throw too from a children’s choir as it shows off Salford people and makes great TV with all generations covered. I used a walkthrough setup as I’d seen it on the BBC and found it a more entertaining and ambitious live that would capture more of the essence of the night. This would be aimed at younger and older audiences around Salford as there are visual and audio aspect that would entertain both demographics.

05

Language Learning in Lockdown (Quays News)

During lockdown language learning had increased due to an increase in apps and online lessons. I interviewed a local French offering lessons through Kidslingo to find out how she was teaching through COVID restrictions.

06

Streaming becoming more popular during lockdown (Quays News)

During lockdown many people took up streaming as a form of hobby or entertainment. Twitch streaming and Youtube content creation had become one of the biggest forms of entertainment over lockdown with platforms seeing a growth of over 100% in views and users.I spoke to three streamers about their experiences with it and how it helped them keep busy in lockdown. I also took part in my own streaming session to see what all the hype was about.

07

Litter picking becoming increasingly important (Quays News)

62% of people in the UK litter, but only 28% actually admit they do. So how do we tackle the issue? I spoke to Libby from Solid Ground who were aiming to tackle litter issues with volunteers helping to clean the streets.

08

Hotel owner helping to raise money for Macmillan with sponsored walk (Quays News)

I chose this story from a Salford community Facebook page, it stood out to me from others due to the human nature of the story and the fact it had a personal and emotive meaning behind it with his dad passing away from cancer, and his brother currently fighting it. Having had family history with cancer, I knew how tough COVID had been on people suffering with it, so Paul’s story was the perfect feel-good break from the usual doom and gloom of the pandemic.

09

CPR Training offered to help increase UK teaching (Quays News)

1/3 of UK  adults don't know how to do CPR, a big topic missing out of general education. Mini First Aid were offering lessons to help teach children and adults.

10

Warrington Wolves release NFT line (Freelance)

I went to a press conference for the Warrington Wolves as they released a new line of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens). I conudcted all the interviews seen in the video, these were edited by the Wolves media team and uploaded on to their official YouTube channel.
